The Vélins d'Or

 Gilded works on Vellum
A perfect mastery of drawing, composition watercolour and gold leaf

Passionate about and inspired by the techniques of the great monastic illuminators of the 14th and 15th centuries, I created at the very beginning of my professional career a unique visual style of painting which I have called Les Vélins d'Or ( Gilded works on Vellum)

The Vélins d'Or are medium format watercolours, which can be qualified as "precious", much as the original illuminated manuscripts that form part of our very creative civilization.

These paintings are made on velot skin (stillborn calf skin) called vellum (not to be confused with parchment, sheep or lamb skin). Patiently worked by highly specialized tanners to obtain a remarkable texture and finesse.

To create these little masterpieces comparable to the illuminated works of the Middle Ages, I use the best watercolour pigments available. Each work is enhanced with gold leaf, skillfully and delicately applied to enhance it.

In this art, where detail and precision are the key elements, I have acquired over time a perfect mastery that has proved essential in my professional world of illustration, of which I am proud and grateful to have become today, one of the great ambassadors.
